This week we had some good little things happen! We have started to teach this Swedish fella that has just been interested in religion but he is quote "sick of old men calling him unto repentance" So he he liked to hear a couple of young boys tell him about their beliefs for a change. He seems like your typical Swede and all (y'all probs have no idea what that means but it's chill) but he read from the book of mormon and enjoyed it! We'll see how it goes!
Then on Thursday we had a Swedish holiday called Valborg. Basically, in the past the use to burn lots of witches in massive bonfires but now in modern times they are running out of witches to burn so we only saw like 2 or 3 witches get burned instead of the usually 30-35 :(
We were also up in Boden for Valborg with a family that had a farm and they had some cattle and ya know how cows like cow pies right?? Well this one little boy made some "manure sandcastles" and then after he covered his hands in it, he decided to go eat out of the marshmallow bag that everyone was getting marshmallows from to make s'mores! haha Luckily someone noticed before he ate his 6th marshmallow. That they were all covered in cow pie.... hahaha gotta love kids!
Also this week we were walking down the street and I heard this car making a weird noise and we noticed that it had a super flat tire so we followed the car and asked the lady if we could help her change the tire. We basically had to beg the Swede to let us help her but we finally got her to let us!! It took me about 5 minutes to figure out how the stupid European car jack worked but in the end it turned out well and she was very grateful!
Well this week I was studying in The 4th chapter of Mathew. This is the chapter where Satan tempts Christ three times. Howard W. Hunter describes in a talk from 1976 how those three temptations that Satan tried to deceive Christ with, can be "categorized" as all types of temptations.
1. a temptation of the appetite
2. yielding to the pride of those away from God
3. a desire of the riches of the world
President Hunter highlights how Christ had been fasting for 40 days and 40 nights before these temptations and these events are the beginnings of his earthly ministry. He overcame Satan as a man and was ready to fulfill his earthly ministry.
Just like my fantabulous sister has mentioned lately about pride; I'd like to cash in my 2 cents from President Uchtdorf:
The greatest, most capable, most accomplished man who ever walked this earth was also the most humble. He performed some of His most impressive service in private moments, with only a few observers, whom He asked to “tell no man” what He had done. When someone called Him “good,” He quickly deflected the compliment, insisting that only God is truly good. Clearly the praise of the world meant nothing to Him.
